Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs

Derbyshire Firewood supplies kiln dried firewood which offers a premium burning performance and consistently low moisture content. This ensures that you are buying the best quality, clean burning firewood and helping to look after your stove and flue whilst providing good heat and flame.

Starting with timber sourced from sustainably managed UK woodlands, we cut, split & dry our logs locally in our state of the art drying facility. We use the heat generated from a biomass fuelled electricity generator, powering a potato farm, to heat our log drying kiln. This makes for a high quality kiln dried log product with a high degree of sustainabilty by utilising existing heat generation. Derbyshire Firewood supply mixed kiln dried hardwood*, mainly ash, beech, birch, oak & sycamore, all known as good firewoods. Single species orders may also be available depending on stock, please enquire about this.

Kindling & Firelighters

Our kindling is split down from kiln dried softwood to provide a great quality kindling that will get your fire lit first time. Softwood makes the best kindling as the natural resins and lighter density help it to ignite. Softwood kindling also produces a short lived but fierce flame that helps your main fuel source logs to catch fire.

Smokeless Solid Fuel

Smokeless Solid Fuel can be used in multi-fuel stoves and open fires, and is also permissible to use in a smokeless zone such as Derby. Using a small amount of smokeless solid fuel in a multi-fuel stove or open fire mixed with seasoned wood can produce some good stove results. The smokeless fuel has a very long burn time and helps to keep some core heat in the fire-box or base of an open fire.

Heat Logs

Our heat logs are a great alternative to firewood logs and used alone or in combination with traditional firewood logs can provide excellent burning results and a potential cost saving. Heat logs are made from 100% compressed sawdust, a by-product of sawmills, making it highly sustainable. This is then formed using extreme pressure or extreme heat & pressure to produce an exceptionally dry and dense, bio-fuel briquette. There are no bonding agents used to hold heat logs together, just the natural lignin polymers in the wood. Our heat logs are a great alternative to firewood logs and used alone or in combination with traditional firewood logs can provide excellent burning results and a potential cost saving. Collection From Our Yard

We are now able to offer crates of loose filled kiln dried logs from our warehouse in Sheffield. The crates are 1.6m cube and come direct from our drying kiln. This is equivalent to approx. 2.5 of the builder’s bulk bags. This offers a more economical way of purchasing firewood where you have the capacity to transport wood in larger volumes. We can either tip the wood direct from the crate into your vehicle/trailer, or load the crate onto your vehicle for return by yourselves at a later stage*. This wood is sourced from UK forests and is harvested as part of a sustainable woodland management plan. It is then processed into firewood and kiln dried at our facility near Pontefract. Like all our other kiln dried wood this is dried to an average moisture content of 15%. This will ensure that you will get a highly efficient and clean burn from your stove or open fire. All logs have been run through our log cleaner to remove splinters and chips that are generated in the splitting process ensuring that you are left with a high quality product. Our loose hardwood logs are a mixture of species including ash, beech oak and sycamore.

* Subject to a security deposit of £70.00 refunded on return of the crate.

Chips & Scraps

Fancy a bargain? We are now offering bulk bags of random chips & scraps of kiln dried hardwood that we wouldn’t be able to classify as ‘logs’. Although our new state of the art log processing plant is highly efficient at turning large diameter tree trunks into cut, split hardwood logs, there are always some chips, splinters and oddly shaped bits of wood that are produced. The majority of these are rejected automatically by our processing plant with further pieces separated out when our logs are hand sorted for packing. All of this material has been through our drying facility and due to most of it being of smaller size to our logs, is exceptionally dry.
